ABOUT JPR Weddings

Ordained 20+ years, I’ve met hundreds of good, funny, wonderful couples. I’ve officiated ceremonies as diverse as Muslim/Hindu, Buddhist/Jewish, Christian/Atheist.

I’ve seen a pot-bellied pig as a ring bearer and a bride’s cousin belly dance with a sword balanced on her head as she presented the rings!

I’m not going to say that I’ve seen it all, but I’ve witnessed a lot. And I’ve loved it all.

I don’t work from pre-printed ceremonies because I want your families and friends to recognize “you” in your ceremony and so I tailor the ceremony to YOU.

I believe that in a wedding, a couple invites family and friends to celebrate the great good they have found in each other – and to bear witness as they pledge to continue to create a life-giving life together.

For a day, a weekend, folks put aside the messiness of daily life and remember what really matters — love, loyalty, family and friends. This is what I help a couple celebrate.

The weddings I officiate are non-denominational, interfaith, cross-cultural. I don’t have pre-printed ceremonies as I work with a couple to create a ceremony that reflects them. I know that five years from the time of your wedding no one will remember what I said, but they will remember the feeling of the ceremony. My hope is that your ceremony provides a wonderful memory for your life together.

I provide pre-marital counseling to couples wanting to strengthen their communication skills.

In the short term, these skills help you negotiate the wackiness of wedding planning and in the long term, help make your life strong and sane.

While each couple comes to me with their own particular issues and concerns, common themes have emerged. I’ve helped many couples develop new skills that allow them to:

• Express emotions without saddling guilt trips on each other
• Argue fairly so they don’t drive each other crazy
• Listen so they can both be on the same page
• Look at challenges from each other’s P.O.V. so they can solve seemingly unsolvable problems
• Resist pressure from family and friends and so make decisions that honor and reflect their vision

With humor and sure insight, I show couples how they can protect each other from the craziness of wedding planning so as together keep a healthy sense of “I” in their “I Do!”

The thought of standing in front of friends and families and pouring your heart out + trying to be funny can be terrifying. There is so much that can go wrong.

If you’re worried that your best man (woman) or maid (man) of honor is going to say the wrong thing, go on too long or do something that will make you grit your teeth then treat them to a coaching session with me.

I can show your “Toasters” how to gift you with a toast that will make you smile –and maybe even make you get teary-eyed!

And if your father or mother is worried about their speech, I can help them overcome their nerves, manage their emotions and find the words to say what is deep in their hearts on this most cherished family occasion.
